Pierre-Arzu

Madly Pierre, 27, and Anthony Lincoln Arzu, 26, were married on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at the Bethesda Healing Center Church in East Flatbush, in front of 270 friends and family members. Dr. Annette Lazarus Rose officiated.

The couple now resides in Canarsie.
The bride is the daughter of Jocelyn Labidou of East Flatbush and Higgens Labidou of West Palm Beach, Fla. She attended Tilden High School, class of 1996, and Brooklyn College, attaining a degree in Business Management and Finance in 2003. She is employed as a managed care supervisor in a hospital.

The groom is the son of Anthony Arzu of Corona, Queens and Ellen Arzu of Belize. He attended Economical High School in Belize, class of 2001. He is training to be an electrician and is employed in construction.

How did you meet?
The bride says: “We met in February 2004 at a singles ministry called Single And Secure (SAS) at our church, the Bethesda Healing Center (Pentecostal) in East Flatbush.

“The SAS group is 30 to 45 singles that read and discuss various spiritual growth books and attend social functions together, like gospel concerts, Great Adventure trips, and shows.

“The first time we spoke was a few weeks after I had been baptized there. We were reading and discussing ‘The Purpose-Driven Life,’ and he struck up a conversation as we were getting a drink. About five weeks later, he asked for my number while we were going to see ‘The Passion of The Christ.’

“Our first date was dinner at Applebees in Manhattan Beach.”

Who proposed, and how?
The bride says: “The day before Valentine’s Day in 2005, Lincoln proposed to me during a presentation he was giving at one of our SAS ministry meetings.

“He was closing up his presentation and then walked over to me and gave me a velvet rose with a ring inside.

“I was so much in shock that everything felt unreal. Next thing you know, he got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage — in front of the whole group!

“It all took me by surprise, and I never saw it coming, because during the day he refused to tell me what his presentation was going to be about.”

Reception details
The bride says: “We were married on Saturday afternoon at our church, Bethesda Healing Center. Our pastor, Dr. Annette Lazarus Rose, also did our pre-marital counseling sessions.

“The reception was held at Paradise Manor on Avenue U at West 11th Street in Bath Beach, with 270 guests. It was a magical night.

“We both paid tribute to our moms while dancing to ‘Mama You Know I Love You’ by Boyz II Men.

“Later on in the evening, my husband and I performed a spiritual dance to the song ‘He Lives in You’ from ‘The Lion King’ soundtrack for our guests. Everyone loved it and said it was the highlight of the entire evening.”

Honeymoon in Hawaii
The bride says: “We went to Honolulu, Hawaii for the honeymoon the day after the wedding, and stayed at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel. We had the time of our lives there! We shopped, went on tours and even a luau. The island was absolutely beautiful, and we would love to visit again.”
